777 Moving Line Stand Attachment Mechanism

Sponsor: Boeing (Everett)

Team: Assembly Improvement Technologies

Coach: Dan Manning

Students: Spencer Harding, Rich Ziegler, Jeremy Alsup, Danny Call, Mike Lundwall.

Assembly Improvement Technologies designed and built an attachment mechanism to create a safer and faster-moving assembly line for Boeing’s 777 aircrafts.

The disk, linking and locking bars, made of steel, helped create this safer product and allowed it to be released in a single motion. The attachment mechanism locks on contact, withstands loads of 7,000 lbs in all directions, holds within ¼ inches of desired position, and is able to easily detach after use making it more time efficient and safer for workers to use.

This product will be able to pay for itself within 2 years and assist in reducing final assembly time from six to three days.
