Shipping and Receiving
Shipping and Receiving
All incoming and outgoing shipments for your team must go through the Capstone office. As expected, the office purchases all items for your team using your team budget and following the process described under Orders. Any other receiving and shipping needs must also be coordinated with the Capstone office.
Receiving Items
NOTE: All packages sent to BYU must be addressed to a full-time BYU employee.
If your sponsor needs to send you a package, please let the Capstone office know ASAP that you will be receiving a package from the sponsor and get us the tracking number.
Items sent by parcel delivery (FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc.) should be sent to the following address (with XX replaced by your team number):
Brigham Young University
Mechanical Engineering Department
Paula Harper
Capstone Team # XX
344 EB
Provo, UT 84602
In case there is difficulty locating the package at BYU, a tracking number or waybill is necessary.
Sending packages
You can mail items for your project from the BYU Post Office located downstairs in the BYU Store. Postage for your shipment must be paid for using the following process:
- Come to the Capstone office and check out a BYU Campus Card. You will leave your BYU ID card or driver’s license as a deposit for the Campus Card.
- Directly after shipping your package, bring the receipt with a tracking number and the Campus card to the Capstone office, where your BYU ID card will be returned.
Freight Shipments
Items that are large or heavy (more than 70 pounds) need to be shipped by freight rather than by parcel services. BYU has contracts with freight shippers that provide very competitive freight shipping rates.
Please contact the Capstone office staff in 344 EB to get help with arranging freight shipments. Allow a few business days to complete shipping preparations.
Items that are sent by freight (semi-truck shipment) should be sent to:
Brigham Young University
Mechanical Engineering Department
Paula Harper
Capstone Team # XX
2350 N Freedom Blvd
Provo, UT 84602
Regular packages must NOT be sent to the freight address.
NOTE: You will be responsible for crating and/or palletizing your freight shipment. Kevin Cole and Dave Laws can provide suggestions for effectively protecting the materials being shipped.
Please reserve some team budget funds to pay for shipping the results of your project to the sponsor.
