Capstone for BYU Faculty

Partner with BYU Capstone to Advance Your Work

BYU Capstone connects faculty with talented engineering teams who can turn ideas into impactful, working solutions. Each project runs from fall through winter semester and is completed by a dedicated team of 4–8 students from mechanical, electrical, computer, manufacturing engineering, or cybersecurity—customized to fit your project’s needs.

Humanitarian projects cost $10,000 plus materials costs to sponsor. We can often help connect faculty with external partners who may fund this cost, enabling projects that create meaningful change in communities worldwide while providing valuable, hands-on experiences for our students.

Research-supporting projects cost $22,000 and offer a powerful way to enhance or accelerate your research. These projects can often be written into grants or contracts and, when structured properly, excluded from university overhead. Our office can guide you through that process.

Projects can address any engineering challenge that can be completed within eight months—developing tools, systems, or technologies that support your research or extend your impact beyond campus. Past collaborations have included projects with BYU Athletics, the College of Life Sciences, and the College of Fine Arts and Communications.

We welcome opportunities to work with faculty across disciplines and across campus. Whether you have a traditional engineering need or an out-of-the-box idea, we are eager to explore creative ways to bring your vision to life and make a lasting difference.
